From 11 March the MEF - Ettore Fico Museum in Torino offers a solo show by Luca Pignatelli, a Milanese artist born in 1962 whose iconicity is recognized internationally.
The exhibition, curated by Luca Beatrice and created in collaboration with Galleria Poggiali, sees Strategica Group as an insurance partner.
The approximately fifty works that make up the exhibition path retrace the last years of the artist's research. Through an original reflection on memory, image and time, Pignatelli develops a personal vision of "a liquid and circular time", thus giving life to a sort of "theater of memory", the result of a heterogeneous archive of personal themes and collective, from ancient and contemporary eras. Installed in the rooms on the ground floor of the museum, site-specific creations, large canvases and works produced in the last decade alternate, in which abstraction joins figuration.
This more recent phase of the artist's work is strongly characterized by monochromatic backgrounds and earthy and dull colors on which reds predominate, from cinnabar to bright vermilion. There will also be the themes and iconic figurative elements that made him famous, such as sculptural heads, emperors, statues of mythological deities belonging to the classical culture of ancient Greece and imperial Rome. Pignatelli experiments and intervenes on poor and recycled materials: hemp canvases, sewn and torn canvases, irons and carpets, become supports of a visual universe that starts from painting and meets other languages and new forms.
The exhibition, which will be inaugurated with an exclusive event on the evening of 10 March, will be open until 19 June 2022.
